Radiation Therapist
Radiation
Therapists are the medical personnel who specialize in
administering prescribed radiation to patients. This
also includes performing imaging examinations, such as
CT, and the responsibility of accurately positioning
patients. They work closely with Radiation Oncologists
to enable a more comfortable and more reproducible
patient set-up prior to CT simulation and treatment.
Radiation Therapists administer targeted doses of
radiation to the patient’s body to treat cancer or
other diseases using a machine called a linear
accelerator. As the radiation strikes human tissue, it
produces highly-energized ions that gradually shrink
and destroy the nucleus of malignant tumor cells.
Radiation Therapists are highly-skilled medical
specialists educated in general physics, radiation
safety, patient anatomy and patient care.
All of our Radiation Therapists have graduated from an
accredited radiation therapy program and passed the
national registry. Also, they must complete continuing
education credits to maintain their certification. Our
therapists have achieved the qualifications stated
below.
