TRI-STATE REGIONAL CANCER CENTER
RECEIVES ACCREDITATION
Ashland, Ky. -- The Radiation Oncology practice at Tri-State Regional Cancer Center, Ashland, Ky., recently received a full three-year accreditation by the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO).
Radiation therapy is one of the three traditional primary forms of medical treatment used to treat cancer, and for relief of symptoms. It may be used alone or in combination with surgery or chemotherapy, almost anywhere within your body. Innovative new techniques have evolved and are still evolving, enabling delivery of higher radiation doses to cancer cells and limited doses to your normal tissue.
Tri-State Regional Cancer Center is located at 706 23rd St., Ashland. Physicians include Jeffrey Lopez, M.D., and Terry Justice, M.D. The center is accredited by both the ACRO and the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Practice accreditation is a formal process in which appointed professional peers of board certified radiation oncologists and board certified medical physicists thoroughly review all aspects of a facility. A facility designated as accredited has been recognized nationally
for expert training as well as using the safe, eflective and ideal delivery of radiation. Each professional practice is examined for quality and efficiency of patient care, as well as appropriateness of radiation therapy equipment, professional performance and staffing levels. The reviewers report their findings to the ACRO for final approval and accreditation.
The ACRO is an organization that serves radiation oncologists, radiation physicists and professional practice administrators. The mission of the organization is to promote the science of radiation oncology, improve oncology services to patients, study the socioeconomic aspects of the practice of Radiation Oncology and encourage continuing education in Radiation Oncology and its allied professional fields.

TRI-STATE REGIONAL CANCER CENTER
AWARDED AMERICAN COLLEGE OF RADIOLOGY
ACCREDITATION

Tri-State Regional
Cancer Center in Ashland, KY has been awarded a
three-year accreditation in Radiation Oncology as a
result of a recent survey by the American College of
Radiology (ACR). The ACR awards accreditation to
facilities for the achievement of high practice
standards after a peer-review evaluation of the
practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified
physicians and medical physicists who are experts in
the field. They assess the qualifications of the
personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The
surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee
on facility equipment.
Tri-State Regional Cancer Center was surveyed and
subsequently accredited by the Committee on Radiation
Oncology Accreditation of the Commission on Quality
and Safety earlier this year. Tri-State Regional
Cancer Center is the only cancer treatment facility in
the Tri-State to currently have this accreditation.
"This is an important milestone for our Cancer
Center," says Dr. Jeffrey Lopez, MD, Director of
Tri-State Regional Cancer Center. "This accreditation
