Follow-up Care
|
Follow-up care is an essential
part of your treatment. Together, you and your
radiation oncologist will watch for benefits of
treatment. This careful monitoring will enable
your radiation oncologist to quickly deal with any
side effects you may have. Tell your radiation
oncologist if you notice symptoms other than those
described as side effects of treatment.
Your efforts are important in your follow-up care.
Getting plenty of rest, eating a balanced diet,
maintaining your emotional health, and following
your oncologist’s advice can help the success of
your treatments.
Tell your oncologist, nurse, or radiation
therapist about any change in your condition,
especially if you are having pain.
The therapist will not stay in the room during
your treatment. However, the therapist will
observe you on a television monitor.
The entire procedure is painless. If you feel sick
or uncomfortable during the treatment, tell the
therapist immediately.
Each week, the nurse will weigh you and obtain
vital signs, and the radiation oncologist will see
you. If at any time during treatment you have
questions or concerns, you should tell the
radiation therapist or nurse. It is possible that
during the course of treatment that additional
blood tests and X-rays will be done. |
